There are almost as many different models of the Trek bad guys as there are of Starfleet vessels. This page includes Klingons, Cardassians, Romulans, Kazons, Jem Haddar ... if there are any we missed please let us know. For a list of all the available Trek kits, by scale, see our updated Star Trek Scale List. The list below is not all-inclusive: the cottage industry manufacturers have made kits of many of these same ships. We have only listed the kits for which we have information. |

D-7-type Battle Cruiser. These starships formed the backbone of the Klingon fleet - and for a time, the Romulan as well in the 2260s. The old standby, designed by Matt Jeffries, was first seen in the original series' third season episode "The Enterprise Incident" (which is the subject of a three-ship fiber-optic and electronic sound effects kit from AMT/ERTL). |

K't'inga-class Battle Cruiser. The upgraded D-7, first seen in "ST:The Motion Picture". Though generally similar in shape/outline, this ship has far more surface detail than its predecessor. This miniature was built by Magicam and reused in several movies as well as TNG. |

B'Rel/K'Vort-class Bird Of Prey. Klingon starship capable of atmospheric entry and landing, as well as warp speed interstellar travel. At least two classes of this ship exist: the smaller B'rel-class scout ship and the larger K'Vort class cruisers. At least, that's what they want us to believe; during the various movies and TNG the same model was used to represent ships of rather distinctly different sizes, with the two classes explanation coming later. The ship was designed by Nilo Rodis and built by ILM for ST:III. |

Vor'Cha-class Attack Cruiser. Among the largest and most powerful ships in the Imperial armada, well over twice the size of ships seen previously. The first new Klingon design seen during TNG's run, appearing first in "Reunion" (TNG). The ship was designed by Rick Sternbach; model built by Greg Jein. |

Negh'var-class Battleship. The flagship of the Imperial fleet. General Martok commanded the invasion of Cardassia in 2372 from the Negh'var ("The Way of the Warrior", DS9). Ships of this calss later took part in the attack on DS9, and numerous battles against the Dominion. The ship, first seen in TNG's final episode "All Good Things", was designed by Rick Sternbach; model built by Greg Jein. |

Galor-class Warship. Largest and most powerful of the regular Cardassian Union warships, and the basis for the even more powerful Keldon-class vessels of the secret Obsidian Order. This ship was designed by Rick Sternbach to resemble an ankh; the original miniature was built by Ed Miarecki. It was first seen in "The Wounded" (TNG). |

Romulans |
Bird of Prey. Spacecraft used to test Federation resolve during the Romulan incursion of 2269. Equipped with a powerful plasma energy weapon and a cloaking device, it was propelled by simple impulse - which may be why the Romulans later started using Klingon D-7 cruisers. First seen in "Balance of Terror" in the original series.

Bigger than the Federation's top-of-the line Galaxy- class and far more ominous, this ship was first seen in 2364 when Romulans violated the Neutral Zone in response to Borg attacks ("The Neutral Zone" ST:TNG). The model was designed by Andrew Probert and built by Greg Jein. When I saw the reproduction copy in Chicago's Viacom store, I couldn't believe the airbrushed "panel lines" - but images of the studio model are conclusive. The original appears a more olive drabish color and is heavily airbrushed with 'panel lines' of a light grey. |

Other Romulan Ships. We don't see too many Romulan ships on-screen, other than the Warbirds. One exception is the Science vessel. A small ship, with a usual crew of about 70 (though it can be operated by one person). Used for science missions, reconnaissance, and in at least one case as a testbed for experimental technology ("The Next Phase", TNG). First seen in "The Defector" (TNG), the basic model has been modified and reused in several episodes, usually with the addition of different bow and stern modules.
Star Trek: Nemesis showed a Romulan/Reman Fighter briefly as well. |

Borg Ships. The most familiar of the Borg vessels are the huge Borg Cubes, first encountered by the Enterprise-D in 2365. Highly decentralized, with no separate bridge, engineering or other functional areas, these ships are almost impossible to kill by conventional ships ("Best of Both Worlds", TNG). THey are immensly powerful, and have sophisticated auto-repair systems that quickly regenerate damaged sections. A totally different design was seen in 2369, when the Borg used a transwarp conduit to attack the Federation again without warning ("Descent", TNG). A smaller ship, the Borg Sphere, was used to travel back to 2063 when the Borg attempted to kill Zephram Cochrane, inventor of the warp drive, and alter history to their liking ("ST:First Contact"). Maurice Hurley originated the Borg cube concept, which was designed by Rick Strenbach; the model was built by Kim Bailey. The Type 2 ship was designed by Dan Curry and built by Greg Jein. |

Jem'Hadar Attack Ship. A small ship, comparable in size to the Klingon B'rel, usually operating in groups and attacking in 'swarms". They are armed with phased polaron beam weapons, transporters that are unaffected by Federation defensive shielding, and deflectors of their own that prohibit tractor beam locks. First encountered in 2370, when one arrived at Deep Space 9 to report Commander Sisko's capture ("The Jem'Hadar" DS9). |

Ferengi D-Kora-class Marauder. Sophisticated vessels, some of which are armed with a plasma weapon that can disable opposing starships. First encountered by the Federation in 2364 near Gamma Tauri IV ("The Last Outpost" TNG). The model was designed by Andrew Probert and built by Greg Jein. |

Kazon Cruiser. The Kazon tribes use a variety of ships based on Trabe designs, stolen when they gained independence from the Trabe in 2346 ("Maneuvers", Vgr). The most commonly seen of the bad-hair guys' ships, from the first seasons of ST:Voyager, looks like a zeppelin that crashed nose-first into its mooring tower. |

Kazon Torpedo. A one-show wonder, this craft was a modified shuttle used to punch a hole through Voyager's plot...., err hull so the Kazons could thieve some high tech ("Maneuvers", Vgr). |

Non-Canon Ships |
Non-canon designs fill a logical niche in the Starfleet and other races' armadas, and give free reign to the modeler's imagination. |
