Your Two Cents: TOS Enterprise

The following are reader's opinions of the TOS Enterprise made by Starcrafts.

Overall Rating       Good kit, but with some problems.
Comments This was the second Starcrafts kit I purchased, and was expecting a bit less than perfection based on an earlier SM review. With that in mind, I was not surprised by what I received.

The forward section of the primary hull (saucer) had a few rather large voids in the resin just below the surface. I had to pop the ultra-thin surface and fill these voids with super glue. The topside navigation lights are not aligned properly, so these had to come off as well. The warp nacell intercoolers were cast too thin, so the trailing ends were truncated. These too had to be rebuilt using superglue.

The nacelle supports were slightly warped out of alignment, and had to be gently coaxed back into proper alignment with a heat gun after initial assembly.

Though not strictly necessary, I removed the molded in navigation deflector rings and replaced them with concentric rings of brass tube.

Once these (expected) deficiencies were corrected, the final assembly and painting were a breeze. The kit builds up to a nice replica of the TOS Enterprise.

I did not use the decals included with the kit, but opted rather for the JT Graphics decals.
