This is a vignette showing Artoo and Threepio on Tatooine. I used the Bandai 1/12 kits for R2-D2 and C-3PO.
Artoo was built stock. Painted in Tamiya paints and weathered with oils and powders. Kit went together very easily, but the construction of artoo's dome needed some careful putty and sanding work to eliminate an otherwise big and noticeable seam that did not belong.
C-3PO was built stock. I found the eyes did not show sufficient detail through the translucent eye parts, so i painted the glow of the eyes in on the outside. Threepio was weathered using powders and oils over a clear matte coat to represent the dust and grime of a desert world.
I made the base terrain with sculpey, which i then painted in oils, glued small scale model train ballast to for sandy texture, and repainted in oils, adding powders for depth.
I mounted them on a small wooden plaque stained and sealed with polyurethane/walnur stain combo
