Teletubbies: The Next Generation |

In Sega's Sakura Wars, these things are steam powered robots, operated by teenage girls in turn-of-the-century Japan against hideous alien monsters. Wave's kits are cheap (about $10) and a blast to build. My wife took one look at the box art, snorted, and said they looked more like overgrown Teletubbies .... and the idea was born. The robots themselves are built straight from the box, minus weapons, and with the addition of "antennae" fashioned from scrap plastic rod. They were sprayed the appropriate festive colors with Testor's small bottle paints, and decaled using kit decals (which have all sorts of neat markings one can use on other projects). The ball is a street hocky puck, the red guy's scooter was bashed together from spare parts and scrap stock ... and decals for the TV screens and Tubbie logo were printed with an ALPS printer. I made a purse .... excuse me, a "magic bag", for the purple one .... but it looks like junk, so I don't display it. |
