U.S.S. Alamo-N.C.C. 74705 (stock 18)

Background

The Alamo was severely damaged in the battle at Chintaka and after being towed home was decommissioned. A few months later it was acquired by Starfleet's Advanced Technologies Integration and Study Division (ATIS). They were studying the Borg technology which was removed from the Enterprise E. They found it integrated easily with Starfleet systems and could be manipulated and controlled.

Using the repaired Alamo hull they grafted the Borg technology to the Engineering section. From there they stimulated the Borg tech to assimilate and upgrade the Warp. After testing the assimilated components they found that Warp 9.9 could be maintained indefinitely. The new engines were also capable of generating short Transwarp Conduits of about 6 Light Years.

Next they stimulated the Borg tech to assimilate the Deflector array, Sensors, Photon Torpedo launchers, and Phaser emitters. This gave them surprising results. The Photon Launchers were now capable of firing shield and Warpfield dissipating pulses. Phaser and sensor output were tripled and the ship now had a cutting beam.

After three test runs ATIS offered the ship to Starfleet Fleet Command. Many officers were apprehensive about using the ship. Yet with the introduction of the Breen into the Dominion War they decided to enter the ship into service. This was done without the Federation Council's approval. This would lead to the eventual court-martial of 5 high ranking Starfleet Officers.

The first mission for the Alamo was to locate and engage any Breen starships. They were to record as much data about Breen armaments and capabilities. If possible they were to assimilate any unknown technology. Using the Borg enhanced sensor 3 Breen vessels were located on patrol. The Alamo engaged and defeated the 3 Breen cruisers and was successful in assimilating the Breen energy-dissipating weapon. This was done with only minimal damage to the shields. Unfortunately during the battle a crewman mistakenly activated a Borg subspace transponder while repairing a shield generator. Apparently the transponder made contact with the Borg Collective. It is presumed that the Borg tech that was already integrated into ship systems may have taken control of the ship. Two hours after the battle the Alamo opened a transwarp conduit and was never heard from again.

Construction Details

The Defiant kit was built straight from the box and painted loosely on the colors designated by the instructions. I basically used spare parts, brass rods, and custom designed decals to simulate Borg growth. The weathering was done using powdered chalk.
