Danube Class runabout U.S.S. Shenandoah (stock 11) |
Background During the Dominion War, the Danube Class runabouts proved to be extremely valuable utility and combat spacecraft, versatile enough to complete a variety of tasks, from long range reconnaissance, to planetary assault. A prime example of how the runabouts' modular design allows them to fulfill widely different roles, USS Shenandoah, shown here, has a configuration optimized for cargo transportation. She has been equipped with six quarter-load modules (instead of the standard four), with the additional two modules taking the place of the aft living compartment. The additional payload capacity makes her more effective in ship-to-ship and ship-to-surface shielded replenishment missions, delivering supplies in hostile conditions where transporters cannot be used. Construction Details The USS Shenandoah model was constructed from the AMT/Ertl Runabout model kit with some minor modification. I removed the aft living compartment and replaced it with half of a multi-mission module pack from a second runabout kit, and plated over the aft bulkhead with sheet styrene.
