Background

Taking advantage of the enormous upheavals inflicted on their race during the Dominion War, the Obsidian Order of Cardassia made its comeback. Reorganized elements of the supposedly disbanded group made its first bid for power by developing a test-bed vehicle for a Cardassian cloaking device. The Madred-class warship employed Klingon technology salvaged during the war. The new cloaking technology was not one hundred per cent effective; the craft was forced to incorporate the low-tech device of wearing a matte black appearance to camouflage it against the depths of space.

Construction Details

I was looking through The Deep Space Nine Technical Manual for ideas when I noticed that the general outlines of the Klingon Vor'cha-class Attack Cruiser and the Cardassian Galor-class Warship were really quite similar. I had an attack cruiser partially assembled, but waiting to be rebuilt or cannibalized for other projects. So I kitbashed it into the Madred-class test bed vehicle. The forward disruptor, engine intakes, and engine exhausts were scratchbuilt.
