The Gemini Project - U.S.S. Mjolnir NXG-0001H and |
Background Hammer Class Border Cutter: The “Gemini Project” was the first experiment in combined tactical starship development. With the escalation of the Dominion war, the number of individual ships crippled or lost to small fleets of Jem’Hadar attack cruisers during border patrol had increased dramatically. As a result a decision was made to develop “twinned” cutters, each designed to complement the strengths and tactical advantages of the other. Each ship is sheathed in an experimental variation of ablative/duridium armor, designed not only to burn off and absorb the energy of enemy fire, but to hide the ship from enemy sensors by bending the sensor pulses around the hull. The ships are equipped with advanced nacelle variants designed to protect sub-space from warp disruption at high warp speed. The Hammer Class U.S.S. Mjolnir is named after the hammer of the Norse god of thunder Thor, and is the more heavily armed of the two. Its multi-modal phasers and quantum torpedo armament is supplemented by two Klingon-inspired disrupter canons. It also incorporates a phaser pulse cannon first introduced in the Defiant Class. The two ships are able to link their tactical displays and coordinate fire more effectively than either could separately. |

Anvil Class Border Cutter: The Anvil Class U.S.S. Hephaestus is named after the Greek god of the forge, and is the more maneuverable and strategically shielded of the two. Its advanced multi-phasic shield matrix allows it to move into a conflict first and draw enemy fire, allowing the Mjolnir to strike at the distracted ships. The Hephaestus can also link its shield to the Mjolnir's and through interweaving its shield harmonics, create a nearly impregnable barrier to conventional weapons. This tactic restricts offensive use of phasers and torpedoes, but provides the opportunity to regroup and strike again. While the training period for both of the crews took longer than desired, the results were impressive. The two crews have learned to function as one, and the command protocols established the by the two captains have created a new paradigm in cross -ship and fleet command structures. The "twins" have performed admirably, helping protect the borders of Federation space from Dominion incursions. Model Details The "twins" were built from a bashing of the second 3 Enterprise set and a Voyager 3 piece set, with a few stray elements from the first 3 Enterprise set that had been left over from a previous project.
