USS Excelsior |

This is my USS Excelsior made by AMT/ERTL. It was a nice kit my only complaint was that it was too small. Most everything fit together nicely, however the bussard housings on each warp nacelle required a little tweaking to make them fit. The nacelles themselves attached to the pylons easily but I had to work to get them straight. Decals were slim. Anything not red was painted. I airbrushed the entire model "Model Master" ducks egg blue. The warp nacelles and the deflector dish were Tamiya clear blue, the deflector array housing was spray painted chrome silver, which made it very shiny but it looks great! I hand painted the "Aztec" pattern on the saucer section. For that I used Poly-scale big sky blue and some generic medium gray. I also used chrome yellow and insignia red in a few places on the saucer. I am most proud of the blue areas on the underside of the secondary hull. These areas I masked off and airbrushed, there was a chance that it wasn't going to turn well out but it did and I'm very happy with my results! |
