This is only the second models I've built since returning to the hobby after about a 10 year or so gap. I was probably 12 or so when I built my last model when I'd just slapped them together with glue, splashed them with paint and put'em on a shelf - fingerprints and all. So I decided I wanted to build a nice one, using some more "advanced techniques" like airbrush and dry brushing and such. I bought this kit, the ERTL release from Star Trek "Generations", a few years ago. I chose it because I have always liked this particular ship from the Star Trek universe, probably because when it first came out it was so different from anything else in Star Trek.
I found for the most part the kit was pretty easy to assemble, even with my limited experience. However I found it difficult to mix what I felt was an accurate shade of green. I eventually toned it down to a real dingy-looking green and then added a few washes of darker greens and rust, which I feel worked well. I also found the red for under the wings to be far too red straight from the bottle, so I muted it down with the same shade of green as the rest of the hull. After some more washes and some dry brushing I had a beat up looking Klingon Bird of Prey that I was very much pleased with.
