EAS Conquest

by Jerry Oliver

Scale: 1/2500

My Model is Omega-X class Advanced Destroyer. 10 months before the Earth Civil War the Conquest was dry docked for it's 10 year refit. The Conquest was scheduled for a complete rebuild to bring it up to the standards of the day. Shortly after the start of the refit it was decided to use the Conquest as a test bed for the new Shadow technologies that were being replicated for the new Warlock project. Once the Civil War had started, the Clark administration ordered more Omega class converted to use Shadow technologies. One of the most visible signs of Shadow technologies was the organic hull armour, giving the Omegas a very aggressive look. There were also weapons and defensive upgrades. Late in 2261 with the war going badly for Earth force, president Clark ordered all Advanced Destroyer into action, in hopes of turning the tides of the war. So late December, the 20 Omega-X's that were ready or not, were sent on a mission to trap Sheridan's force. Instead of engaging ex-Earth forces capital ships, the Advanced Destroyer Group met up with the Whitestar fleet. During the battle the Whitestars were able to out manoeuver the Advanced Destroyers. Most of the Advanced Destroyers were destroyed or disabled, including the Conquest.

I started this model along time ago, I forget how long ago. Its been that long. The scale is 1/2500. I choose this scale because I had a ERTL original 3-piece set hanging around that I got a yard sale, and the ships were put glue together. I thought that this would be a good way to display the Conquest. I got the name from a Carnival cruise ship. I built most of it at work because I do not have the tools at home. I built it mostly out of Acrylic and styrene. I glued the acrylic together with Methylene Chloride. I cut everything on the table saw and bandsaw. I had 70% of the model done when life happen and it got shelved. Then last year I found it in a box in the closet, so I pulled it out and got my butt in gear to finish it. it did not take long some of the parts I drew up in 3D and used a SLA machine that my work has. By the end of February 2009 it was finished, all I had to do was paint it. That took me forever as I don't like painting. Not my strong point.
