Scale: 1/25
The Yavin is the civilian version of the A-42, a vehicle originally developed by the rebels for close Ground Troop Support and Inner Atmosphere Air Defense. Scaled down (and just as powerful!) from the X-Wing, this bad boy is one over-powered, highly unstable but very manouverable flyer. The miniature AstroMech Droid handles control surfaces (and weapons systems in the military version).
Though a hit amongst the inner core planets, the 'Street Racers' and 'Pod Racing Champions' rules in the Outer Rim Colonies.
The base of the Kit-Bash is a 1/25 scale Indy Car Racer, with a snap-fast X-Wing rear section grafted onto the rear of the indy car racer. A pair of 1/72 scale F-18 wings were attached to the side pods and scratchbuilt landing skids on the bottom round out the model.
The model body and wings were spray painted with Black Night Metallic and the engines and laser cannons were painted with Metallic Chrome. Hand painted acrylics were used for the cockpit. Gold and Silver colored Pactra Trim Tape was applied as the bling bling decoration.
As the model was being finished, I was torn between finishing as the civilian version, or
change focus and complete as a fighter aircraft.
